The Labor Party (LP) has criticized the speech given by President Bola Tinubu during his inauguration, stating that it lacked direction for the people of Nigeria. In a statement, the National Publicity Secretary of the Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC), Obiora Ifoh, expressed disappointment with the president’s description of his election as “tough but fairly won.” Ifoh stated that LP considered the speech to be “defective in many ways,” and pointed to the late President Umaru Yar’Adua’s promise to fix the electoral system in his inauguration speech as an example of what the current administration should have done.
LP was also critical of Tinubu’s audacity in declaring his election as fair, despite evidence of flaws and imperfections in the process. Ifoh accused the president of being insensitive to the millions of Nigerians who were robbed of their votes by state institutions and brute violence.
Overall, LP sees Tinubu’s inauguration speech as a celebration of lies and deceit, and urges Nigerians to take their role as the highest office in the country seriously. The party calls on the government to respect the destiny of the nation and not to take its people for granted.
